Electrical Estimating — Frequently Asked Questions

Turnaround, deliverables, labor units, and how an engagement works.

Q-01

How quickly can you turn around an estimate?

Budget and ROM estimates are typically delivered within 48 hours. Hard bid turnaround depends on project size and complexity; a delivery date is confirmed up front, once the drawings are reviewed against your bid date.

Q-02

What do I need to send to get started?

The PDF drawing set and specifications, any addenda, and your bid date. Send the files or a project link to john@electricalestimatingpartner.com.

Q-03

What do I receive with a completed estimate?

  • Collapsed Takeoff Report
  • Bid Summary Report
  • Electrical Bid Proposal, including Qualifications and Exclusions
  • Vendor quotes
  • Takeoff drawings
Q-04

Will you review the estimate with us?

Yes. Every completed estimate is walked through in detail on a Microsoft Teams meeting, covering scope, assumptions, qualifications, and pricing, so your team understands exactly what is carried and why.

Q-05

Do you attend site walks or pre-bid meetings?

Work is performed remotely by default. Site walks and pre-bid meetings in the NJ / NY Metro area are available on request and billed separately.

Q-06

Where do you work?

Anywhere in the U.S., with a focus on the East Coast.

Q-07

Do you price change orders?

Yes, for clients whose base bid John prepared.

Q-08

Is my project information kept confidential?

Yes. Drawings, pricing, and estimates are handled in strict confidence, and John will sign your NDA on request.

Q-09

Who actually does the estimating?

John O'Neill personally. He is the only estimator on every project. The takeoff, pricing, qualifications, and RFIs are all done by him.

Q-10

What software and labor units do you use?

Estimates are built in ConEst IntelliBid. Labor is based on the NECA Manual of Labor Units, adjusted for site conditions, schedule, and supervision. Material is priced from Trimble Trade Service and local supplier quotes, under the 2023 NEC unless the project specifies otherwise.

Q-11

What types of projects do you estimate?

Commercial, industrial, institutional (including federal, K-12, municipal, and transit), healthcare/medical, and mission-critical work, covering Division 26, 27, and 28 scopes.
